UNISA – Centre for Continuing Education and Training
Education, training and development are important aspects of a democratic, vibrant and prosperous society. The new education dispensation in South Africa stresses an integrated approach to education and training of good quality. The Centre for Continuing Education and Training (CCET) provides opportunities for individuals to gain access to and succeed in lifelong education, training and community development.
University of the Western Cape (UWC)
The Faculty of Education provides a range of programmes for teachers and adult educators, curriculum and materials developers, education planners and managers, and staff of publishers of educational texts.
Cape University of Technology (CPUT)
The CPUT has two degree courses in Further Education and Training namely BEd: Senior Phase and FET Teaching and PGCE: Further Education and Training.
University of Stellenbosch (US)
The US offers an MPhil in Education and Training for Lifelong Learning. This master’s degree allows participants the opportunity to engage with current thinking about adult education issues, and develop their research skills in investigating such issues.
University of Pretoria (UP)
The BEd (Senior Phase and Further Education and Training Teaching) [Grades 7 to 12] is offered by UP. The aim is to produce teachers who are competent to teach in this particular phase. They also offer an MEd and PhD in Adult and Community Education and Training.
University of the Witwatersrand (UW)
A BEd in Senior Phase and Further Education and Training (Grades 8-12) is also offered at this university.
University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN)
The primary focus of the discipline has been on adult basic education, community education and development, and continuing education, including non-formal and formal courses, research, policy development, and the development of materials to support adult learning. Recent years have seen consolidation of the formal courses offered, although two new programmes – the Advanced Diploma in Education (TVET), and the Advanced Diploma in Education (Adult and Community Education) are currently under development.
University of the Free State (UFS)
A BEd in Senior Phase and Further Education and Training (Grades 8-12) is also offered at this university.
